Youth programs

Cartier Farms' EAL Youth Program consists of a curriculum that drives objectives to desired outcomes.  Each exercise is experiential and designed in a Building Block style, focusing on one objective at a time.  The focal point of the 12 week curriculum develops life skills.
These skills include:

  • Appropriate assertiveness
  • Building healthy relationships
  • Confidence & self esteem
  • Creativity & adaptability
  • Goal setting
  • Leadership & team building
  • Listening skills
  • Negotiation
  • Problem solving
  • Respect & trust
  • Responsibility
  • Self control
  • Verbal & non-verbal communication

Using the horses as a barometer, self examination and change occur.

Certified EAL facilitators observe the non-verbal communication of the horse and translate the behavior to guide the learner to the objective of the exercise.

Research supports this approach to learning. It greatly enhances the retention and understanding of skills learned and overflows to Activities of Daily Living (ADL).
